Material analyses
In accordance with the Order on Asbestos Removal, decontamination and removal of materials containing asbestos is bound by strict regulations. Which measures the decontaminating company should take, depends upon, among other things, the kind and the percentage of asbestos found in the material concerned. It is hardly possible, if at all, to determine with the naked eye whether a material contains asbestos or not. That’s why microscopic techniques are used to examine samples and definitely establish the presence and the possible type of asbestos.
Apart from two stationary laboratories, Search has 60 mobile laboratories at its disposal, which can be deployed all over the place for laboratory analysis of samples taken by ourselves or delivered by other parties. During this examination, trained laboratory technicians determine the type of asbestos, its fibre concentration and the structure of the asbestos which the material sample contains. For an incorrect judgement can result in unexpected catastrophes or an unnecessary, costly asbestos decontamination.
Both taking the samples and analysing them is bound by strict regulations. When taking the samples, it is highly important that the safety of man and environment is protected. Apart from that, the sample has of course to be representative. That takes know-how and experience. The sample analysis has to take place in a duly accredited laboratory. Search has been accredited for all types of asbestos investigations.Material analyses are carried out in accordance with the NEN 5896 standard, which means that optical microscopes are used to give a reliable judgement on the composition of a material suspected to contain asbestos. In case of doubt, Search can carry out a more accurate analysis by making use of one of the in-house electron microscopes. The latter analysis can only be carried out in Search’s stationary laboratories, while the much-used optical techniques are employed in its mobile laboratories on location.
Search is a reliable partner for all asbestos investigations, identifications and material analyses. Our inspectors and laboratory technicians are fully accredited and the laboratory is accredited by the RVA (Council of Accreditation). This enables us to provide quick and definite judgements on materials which are suspected to contain asbestos. Search also has a wide experience in taking on the operative and project management of asbestos decontamination and removal projects. Bringing in Search provides our clients with the certainty that not a single asbestos fibre has escaped their attention.
