Asbestos inventories
Since July 1st, 1997 the Assessment Directive 5052 is effective, which specifies the statutory obligation that asbestos inventories are carried out by expert (certified) companies. An asbestos inventory is a statutory requirement prior to renovation and demolition works. Real estate owners and real estate managers also have asbestos inventories carried out in the framework of HSW legislation and with a view to possible liability.
Depending on the investigation target, Search distinguishes between four different types of asbestos investigation, for the purpose of:
- demolition and / or renovation of buildings and properties;
- risk assessment for users and visitors of a building;
- pre-purchase and pre-sale inspections of real estate;
- quick scans to obtain a rough estimate of the presence of materials containing asbestos in a building or
property .
During an asbestos inventory or investigation, the experienced inspectors take samples from the existing materials which are suspected to contain asbestos. This is followed by examination in one of Search’s accredited laboratories. If necessary, the analysis can also be carried out on location, which makes the information required quickly available. Our consultants then present the investigation results in a clear report, which also contains practical advice. The report provides all necessary information about the site, and about the type and quantity of materials containing asbestos. Possible risks are mapped on the basis of a risk index and/or a dust and air investigation. Moreover, the report indicates the urgency of actions to be taken, a strategic plan and a corresponding outline of the costs of decontamination.
For asbestos inventories, Search only employs experienced and certified inspectors, who are available 24 hours a day. If desired, they can combine their inventory work with other inspection and research tasks, such as environmental soil investigations, legionella and fire safety inspections, drawing up measurement surveys, structural inspections and inspections of technical installations. Our knowledge about asbestos investigations and decontamination isn’t only used to carry out investigations and formulate advice. The expertise is also offered to clients in the form of training. Apart from other courses, Search provides training in DT-A, DTA-B and DTA-C (Expert Supervisor/Investigator/Enforcer Asbestos Demolition). Search can also be brought in for operative and project management at asbestos decontamination and removal projects. At Search, clients can count on quick, accurate service, made to measure to their particular requirements.
