During the preparation and execution of a demolition project, correct HSW co-ordination (co-ordination of Health and Safety at Work) is an absolute prerequisite. The Dutch ‘Arbo’ (HSW) legislation makes it mandatory for the party commissioning the demolition project to draw up an HSW plan in the preparatory stage, mentioning all possible risks the contractor may run during the demolition. It is his duty to inform the contractor (the demolition firm) correctly about the things he should take into consideration to keep risks under control. On the basis of this information the contractor can draw up a well-founded HSW plan for the execution stage, stating the way in which the demolition firm will deal with the risks to keep them under control.
In most cases, the party commissioning the demolition does not have the knowledge and manpower at its deposal to draw up the necessary HSW plan for the concept stage. A lot of knowledge and understanding of the legislation is required to draw up the necessary plans and map all risks correctly. That’s a job for specialists who deal with these things on a daily basis, like the Search consultants.
