Permits

There is a common misperception that clients only need to apply for permits in preparation for a demolition project. However, permits are also required for the realisation phase. Simply applying for a demolition permit is often not enough. Felling permits will be needed if trees are to be cut down. Groundwater extraction and discharge permits may be needed in order to demolish a foundation. Last but not least, a permit will be needed in order to use a rubble crusher onsite; this will save costs as it cuts down on transportation expenses, while the crushed rubble can often be put to good use.

THE PERMIT HOLDER IS RESPONSIBLE

When conducting a demolition project, the client is obliged to apply for all permits needed for both preparation and realisation. Failure to do so will mean the demolition company cannot start work. As the permit holder, the client is responsible for ensuring all stipulations in the various permits are respected by the contractors. This is far from straightforward, as it requires a great deal of experience and ‘knowing your way around’ in order to apply for all permits on time and monitor compliance during the realisation phase.
