Whatever the quality of the company emergency response plans, only in actual practice will it become clear if they are adequate to take everybody to safety in time. That’s why it’s sensible to organise evacuation exercises regularly, to test the effectiveness and response speed of this part of the company emergency response plans. Writing and implementing an evacuation plan is a statutory obligation, in accordance with the building regulations or the user’s fire safety certificate-procedure.

Scenario

In an evacuation plan it’s described how the company emergency response team should act in case of a calamity. The emergency response procedure must start at once, preferably within a few minutes. It’s the emergency response organisation’s responsibility to take care that everybody can leave the building safely and in time. The evacuation plan is the scenario for the evacuation and it indicates exactly what everybody must do in case of a calamity.
